Overview
Reelfoot Lake is a natural oxbow lake formed by a series of earthquakes during the months of December 1811 through March 1812. It is located in the northwest corner of the state in Tiptonville, TN. The lake and surrounding wildlife areas are state-owned and are a part of Reelfoot Lake State Park. The park itself is massive and contains 25,000 acres, 15,000 of those acres make up Reelfoot Lake.
Personal Experience
Reelfoot is more of a swamp than an actual lake. Although it can get as deep as 20 plus feet, most of the areas fished are five to eight feet deep. When fishing Reelfoot, I tend to bring three rigs; one crappie pole outfitted with a spin cast reel and bobber slip rig, a crappie pole with an automatic fly reel for grizzly jigging, and an ultra-light spin cast with a slip bobber rig for tight quarters.
